Plans for 2008!

We’re coming back bigger and better than ever. Here’s on our plate

1. 3 camps – Tucson, Solvang, CA (Tour of California) and Marin, CA.

2. American Velodrome Challenge (Olympics Showdown) – August 2008. Last year’s AVC was a huge success and we’re going to make it even bigger this year.

3. At least 2 Charity events to raise funds for the deaf schools/education. More information on that later.

Come back often!

First day of Solvang Training Camp!

The sunshine and warmth greeted us as if it was our old friend when we got out of the hotel this morning. Some cyclists came all the way from Colorado and New Jersey (getting out of the snow and cold weather) just to train in this beautiful weather.

Hunter Allen and Adnan Kadir took the whole group over to Santa Rosa Road (a very beautiful road in middle of nowhere) to do 1 minute and 5 minutes tests. Everything went well and the cyclists had the whole afternoon to analyze their data while some others had their massages.

In the evening, Hunter was introducing the concept of Power Training. Tomorrow we’ll be doing the sprints and race winning intervals.

The cyclists will need their rest afterwards because Figueroa Mountain beckons on Wednesday……

Solvang!

By now, you’ll see that we’ve moved from Santa Barbara to Solvang to be closer to the racing scence during the Solvang ITT day. You may be asking why we made the change, the following reasons are:

1. Originally we wanted to have it in Solvang but the hotels were booked out already for the Solvang ITT Stage during the Tour of California stage. We recently were called by a hotel that is also a host for other pro teams asking me if we were interested in a block of rooms. Without any hesitation, we went ahead with the change.

 2. We’re in the heart of the Solvang downtown which is one of the most beautiful places in California with a dutch charm. This also puts us very close to the ITT stage which means we’ll enjoy the festivities and watch both the starts and finishes. We will be able to cycle around the course and watch the pros zip by.

 3. We’re very close to fantastic routes in the area, especially the Category 1, 11 mile climb on Mt. Figueroa.

 4. Wineries, Wineries – There’s one vineyard that will be holding a special tasting session for us during our ride and it’s very close to Solvang.

Hope to see you all here!

Santa Barbara trip!

There’s been a lot of interest in the camp. We’ve gotten several participants signed up for the camp and I’m truly excited about this.

I will be heading down to Santa Barbara tomorrow to make sure all the logistics are in place for the Feb training camp (I.e. routes, transportation, food, etc). When I come back, I’ll have all the photos you’d like to see before the Training Camp in Feb.

One more thing: I will be offering 5% discount for gift certificates to your spouses, friends or family members. Contact me at robin@thresholdpower.com if you’d like to know more details. I will be posting more information about this shortly.

 Come back and visit often!

Case Study: Doug Northcott, an Elite Track Cyclist

An Elite Athlete Doug Northcott is a Kilo specialist who will be heading down to the ADT Velodrome in Los Angeles for the Elite Nationals to compete for a top placing. Check out his numbers (Btw, it’s impressive!! 945 watts for a minute)

Doug Northcott Case Study

Some Tidbits

- Last Sunday, I had an opportunity to ride on the John Peckham memorial ride. John Peckham was a Category 2 rider from Mountain View, CA who was senselessly killed by a drunk driver going nearly 80 mph on a very narrow road in Palo Alto.

It was a ride I’ll never forget. It was a symbolic ride and this shows how much we cherish our fellow riders. Some photos are at this http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?p=783272#poststop site

 - I’ve been reviewing Doug Northcott’s SRM data for the past 2 years. The amount of power he is putting out there is truly impressive! It’s almost 2,000 watts and I think all he needs is to ramp up the watts slightly but focus on the weight loss during the winter season. If he achieves the latter goal, he’s going to be a track racer to watch for 2007. More details will be coming soon.

 - The itinerary page has been updated with some fascinating topics to be introduced during the week. There’s a lot of training tips that will be provided to the cyclists during the week that could prove to be very useful when you decide to take the self-coaching route. Here’s an example, the performance chart manager in the Cyclingpeaks software has 3 different factors which may lead to the accurate peak (approximately 6 weeks). Once when you are able to figure out the peak, you can plan your training schedule and periods accordingly. So, paying for a coach or go to Santa Barbara (have a vacation, cycle, drink wine, get all the information) for the same cost? Easy choice, right? :)

Welcome!

This weekend, I’ll be getting Doug Northcott’s (an Elite Track racer) data dating back to 2005. What I hope to accomplish is this: Find out how he would peak for his certain events such as the Districts, What makes him a good Kilo rider, etc. Also we’ll be looking at some data that actually may make him even better of a rider than he is now if he were to lose some weight and gain some watts.
Come back soon for this!
